Objectives
The objective of this activity is the develop and the delta-qualification of the Arietis-NS gyro for deep space missions such as HERA.
Description
ARIETIS-NS is is a rad-tolerant, medium-to-high performance, export-free non-redundant 3-axis Gyro Unit being developed to answer the market demand in the field of quot;New Spacequot;.
;
The gyroscope is derived from ARIETIS radiation-hard gyroscope currently under development. The difference between ARIETIS and ARIETIS-NS is primarily in the type of electronic components used for electronics boards. Where ARIETIS requires full compliance to ECSS standard and uses Class 1 components belonging to the ESA ESCC part list, ARIETIS-NS uses IPC standards for board manufacturing and up-screened EEE components normally used in military and automotive industry to meet significantly lower target prices and reduced lead times.
;
ARIETIS-NS is targeting low angular random walk, below 0.005 deg/sqrt(hr), for a mass in the order of 1 kg. Its input power interface is 28V and delivers angular increments on a digital interface.
;
HERA would be the first use of ARIETIS-NS for an ESA mission, therefore it is required to conduct additional analyses for the specific environment of the mission.
;
The main tasks of the activity will be as follows :
    • Analyse the specific environment and evaluate the delta-qualification needs
    • Manufacture and test a Qualification Model to cover the specific environment
Manufacture and test 2 Flight Models to be embarked on the mission.
