The ISRU-DM mission aims to perform the first demonstration of ISRU on the Moon, via the production of water or oxygen from raw lunar material (i.e. regolith, ice etc.) At Agency-level a phase-0 level study was also performed to understand the technical and programmatic feasibility of undertaking the ISRU-DM mission via the provision of commercial services from industry.

A package is foreseen which will assess the resource utilisation potential of the lunar surface by drilling, extracting and chemically processing samples of lunar regolith before performing chemical and isotopic analysis on the derived products. In doing so the package can also address questions of fundamental scientific interest. The first platform targeted for such a package is the Russian Luna‐27 (Luna‐Resurs) mission.

Proof of Mars Hopper Concept Technologies was an eight-month study funded by ESA’s General Studies Programme from ECSAT in Harwell. The study has focussed on increasing the TRL of key technologies required for the Mars Hopper concept, which were:
- In Situ Resource Utilisation (ISRU) subsystem to collect and store CO2 from the atmosphere and deliver it to the propulsion system. Locally generated propellant doe snot require transportation to Mars providing a huge mass saving

The Lunar Dust Analysis Package or L-DAP comprises a number of instruments intended to measure the microscopic properties of lunar dust including:
-The size distribution of the lunar dust
-The structure of the dust grains
-The presence and abundance of key components (eg: nanophase Fe)
-The presence and concentration of specific minerals
-The percentage mass of key elements
-The abundance and distribution of H2O, OH and hydrated minerals
-Electrophysical properties and magnetic field and permittivity.
