A key objective of the Model-Based for System Engineering (MBSE) roadmap is to use MBSE to improve reviews conducted within the Agency. To date, the Agency has some limited experience with this; nonetheless, a standardised process has not yet been developed. In addition, the current tools and processes do not encourage easy interaction with models for users who are not experienced modellers. Digital modelling literacy is low across the wider Agency, and will likely remain so in the coming years.

The Ka-band frequency (35 GHz) is becoming increasingly attractive for spaceborne remote sensing applications. Unlike other radar bands, the Ka-band enables the development of compact high resolution interferometric instruments and embarking the payloads on a single platform. This creates unique new opportunities in Earth observation science and civil security applications, for instance in monitoring the changing cryosphere, generating high resolution maps of ocean currents and ship and vehicle detection.
METASENSING BV
ESA has traditionally specified space systems using a document-based approach, and is now in a transition process towards the digitalisation of systems engineering activities. At the same time, space industry companies have their own internal set of best practices and experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
To solve this problem, ESA initiated this study led by CGI in partnership with OHB to identify a way to harmonise the different MBSE approaches from industry and compile the information into a concise book.

The output of the activity should show the necessary engineering changes to an existing CubeSat deployer to meet AIM mission and system requirements and prepare an appropriate interface definition for accommodation on the AIM spacecraft including among others:
- Identification of the requirements for a LV-POD in an interplanetary environment, first addressing the needs of AIM and extending to generic interplanetary missions.
- Review of technology to extend existing CubeSat deployment systems and identification of their limitations.
