CSS Extension Component for integration in MICONYS-CC
The monitoring and control systems infrastructure at ESOC (based on SCOS-2000) is going to face obsolescence. ESA has decided to adopt the EGS-CC for future Monitoring and Control Systems for the pre-launch, operational and post-launch phases. For the ESOC EGS-CC monitoring and control infrastructure, the following main products are expected:
  • a new generation mission control system infrastructure (MICONYS-CC)
  • a new generation ground data systems validation infrastructure (TEVALIS-CC)

    In recent years the need for accessing historical Earth Observation data information has greatly increased, driven by long term scientific and environmental monitoring. The need to preserve such data indefinitely has led to the establishment of the Long-Term Data Preservation (LTDP) guidelines for Earth Observation. However to make full use of this data, it is necessary to have sufficient quality information available to be assured about the data quality.

    Requirements definition and validation of a Cloud Computing Infastructure Solution

    ESA has currently a mixture of fixed physical and virtual infrastructure. There are some activities which already make use of dynamic infrastructure (private cloud) for their own needs but this is a minority and still in the early phases. On the other hand, the Gaia mission is using public (Amazon) cloud services for data processing.
