Passive intermodulation is a real threat to all types of payloads. In some cases, it could even lead to total lost of the spaceship. Despite of this, there is very weak understanding of the parameters that generate this unwanted interference as well as their influence in the amplitude of the interfering signal. In addition, there is a total lack of agreed testing techniques, procedures and methodologies as well as justified test margins, as has already been recently stated by the European community (National Delegations, satellite operators and Eurospace).

The study demonstrates that in an emergency situation, with only a very short warning time, the launch of a fast asteroid kinetic deflection mission is feasible (targeting launch-readiness in six months!), given that certain identified pre-requisites have been prepared well in advance. The capabilities and requirements of 'hijacking' and modifying a commercial spacecraft platform in order to perform asteroid kinetic deflection in the shortest possible time were consequently assessed.

- Critical analysis of customer's requirements evolution between fully segregated HW constraints for Safe Mode (traditional ESA approach)and authorised reusepending justifications.
- Critical analysis of current AOCS/GNC FDIR complexity and proposals for simplification with equivalent coverage, including model-based approach orintelligent sensors.

The objective of this activity was to understand the operational complexity of large mega-constellation systems, and the potential needs to operate these, including the complexity of collision avoidance manoeuvres (CAMs). This objective was achieved by:

Manned missions into space require systems for Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS). The major tasks of these systems are the control of the habitable volume atmosphere in which the astronauts shall feel themselves comfortable. Essential functions are to control cabin temperature and humidity. For these functions a Membrane-based Condensing Heat Exchanger (MCHX) Technology Demonstrator was developed and performance tested.
