Development of modular multifunctional structure panel prototype
The activity shall be performed with the following steps:
 
  • Identification of a relevant existing structural panel with various subsystem functionalities attached, e.g. thermal control, AOCS and OBDH units, etc.
 
  • Redesign of the panel and the attached functionalities as multifunctional structure panel where the non-structural functionalities are integrated into the panel.

    Proposed activities:
     
    • Assess and identify the limitations of the commonly used approach for strength verification of composite laminates under cryogenic thermo-mechanical environment (including modelling, failure criteria with supporting test methods to determine allowable values).
    • Assess relevance of stacking sequences of plies in the laminate for resistance against cryogenic thermo-mechanical loading.

      Robotic manufacturing of fibrous structures in space

      Motivation: This study aimed to develop promising robotic fabrication methodologies for a fibre-based in-situ robotic fabrication process, for application in a lunar habitat as an alternative to existing additive manufacturing methodologies. Previous work has verified that fibre composite fabrication processes are capable of a high degree of automation and structural performance.
