Cubesats have the potential to revolutionize Earth Observation by exploring different operating points in terms of spatial, temporal, and spectral resolution. However, physical limitations, mostly in terms of size, prevent them from obtaining high-quality images. OPS-SAT, while characterized by a small form factor, provides an impressive in terms of capabilities and flexibility hardware/software platform for executing demanding machine learning algorithms (inference stage).

The main objective of this study is the evaluation of the merits of a dual-camera setup for the acquisition of both high spatial resolution images and high-resolution images of identified events of
interest, on-board, through AI methods. A mission analysis of the approach for a single-satellite, dual camera setup as well as for a two-satellite (leading-trailing), single camera setup was

Today’s satellites are inherently inflexible and purpose-built for a single mission. In contrast, the community is exploring disruptive approaches towards in-orbit reconfiguration and on-board data processing. One of the most promising approaches is to use COTS components and open source frameworks, which decrease time-to-market and could even increase the pool of developers/users on the satellite.

There is an urgent need to assess the levels of plastic pollution in the ocean, to allow for future monitoring and determine the efficacy of any remediation put into force. As a consequence, parallel to in situ observations, there is a growing interest in detecting marine debris using remote sensing satellite and UAV imagery. The Marine Remote Sensing Group (MRSG) at the University of the Aegean is one of the few groups worldwide with in-deep experience in developing artificial plastic debris target structures, in different configurations and polymer composition.

During this activity, we were able to evaluate our electrochemical system with respect to: (i) silicon anode fabricated at an industrial scale equipment, (ii) pouch cells that were manufactured at different suppliers and tested by Airbus Defence and Space, and (iii) safety protocols.
In addition, we showed that standard graphitic-based chemistry cannot operate at low temperatures. Finally, we evaluated the Cost of Ownership of our products.

An activity with GSTP Element 1 and Greece has developed a generic alarm management system. Currently, spacecraft operation teams are usually notified of non-nominal conditions when specific system parameters exceed preset threshold values, alerts that do not offer operators a deeper insight into a system’s condition. The Advanced Alarm Management System will: Enhance alarm generation and notification system through advanced processing of the data using industrial grade Complex Event Processing (CEP) technologies.

The Space4Maritime.gr study identified, analysed and prioritised via desk research, interviews and an online survey 118 unique needs of the maritime sector in Greece which could benefit from space infrastructure. It then translated these needs into a list of user requirements.

DEDICAtE, aims to the development of a dual-channel depolarization lidar technique for the derivation of CALIPSO/ADM-Aeolus/EarthCARE-related conversion factors. CALIPSO is capable of retrieving linear particle depolarization ratio at 532 nm in a global scale, providing this well- calibrated product since 2006. Future ESA missions EarthCARE and ADM-Aeolus are based on the employment of the High Spectral Resolution polarization-sensitive lidar technique at 355 nm.
