Securing NG-Ultra FPGA development through innovative System-on-a-Chip (SoC) validation
The BRAVE series of reprogrammable FPGA’s represent an entirely new area of development for microelectronics. These high performance, very advanced electronics could revolutionise the manufacturing process and performance of multiple missions. Alongside their development there is a current industry initiative to standardise avionics systems. As part of this venture, GSTP Element 2 has initiated an activity to develop a standardised box, which will contain all the different computer modules, such as power boards, and ensure they are all compatible.

De-risk assessment: OrbFIX - PPP GNSS Receiver for CubeSats

A new activity with GSTP Element 1 and Romania has developed a GNSS receiver based on COTS components that can achieve positioning accuracy to less than 10 cm without trading a loss in robustness.

Called OrbFIX, this GNSS receiver for space can produce high positioning precision in the vital low volume, mass and power consumption required for small satellites. At the same time, it is being produced for low cost, making it affordable despite its advanced technology.

Multicore implementation of the On-Board Software Reference Architecture with IMA capability.
The works performed by Savoir-Faire, Savoir-IMA and the related industrial activities have not investigated yet the particular impact of a multicore in the hardware topology on the On-Board Software Reference Architecture. The architectural principles are indeed modular enough to minimize the impacts of the use of a new type of processors. Using a multicore (also in the scope of IMA) in this scope is feasible. But specific aspects need to be investigated:

    State-of-the-art in automated unit/integration testing is a semi-automated approach for which the test environment is established manually, while execution of tests is automated. In contrast to that, the FAST approach already automates building of the test environment and the stimulation of the software, complemented by recording of input-output vectors, observed properties, anomalies and evaluation by metrics and filtering algorithms.

Meanwhile, industry has come with innovate solutions where AOCS sensors are miniaturised and can be progressively introduced fully or partially in the central processor, typically coarse gyros, GNSS receivers or the processing part of the Star Trackers, leaving only optical heads or GNSS antennas to be accommodated as external units.
