The ESA Open Space Innovation Platform Campaign for Cognitive Cloud Computing in Space (3CS) called for project proposals for the use of edge and cloud computing technologies in space. D-Orbit created a consortium including UniBap and Trillium to respond to this opportunity with a proposal to engage the cloud computing community to identify and fly applications on the ION SCV-004 mission.

In applications such as space traffic and disaster response management, there are growing public and private capabilities. Multiple different stakeholders can detect and identify events (space collision predictions, natural disaster definitions). Augmentation of events definitions lead to confusion for local authorities, operators or any users of these information for costly decisions. This project, Space DAO, sets the base infrastructure to agree on consensus mechanisms to reduce confusion and augment trust in key decision making information.

The driver behind the MoBaTe activity was to propose ways to improve the current software development and validation lifecycle using MBSE techniques to shift some of the system validation activities to the early stages of development. The roadmap to achieve this included identifying strategies, required model properties, modelling tools and languages needed to move from a requirements-based approach to a model-based approach. All this considering existing and established workflows and tools currently used by ESA.

COMPASS is a tool for model-based system/software co-engineering developed in a series of ESA studies (2008–2016). It is based on a dialect of AADL and it offers a complete set of functionalities for formal verification, including requirements specification and analysis, contract-based design and verification, functional verification, fault specification, fault injection and RAMS analyses, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Diagnosability Analysis, Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery Analysis (FDIR).

The space industry and allied agencies have long acknowledged the interest and added value of Model-Based System Engineering in expediting the design, development, deployment, and verification of space systems. The definition of models and equipment that can serve the diverse objectives of system engineering process has been the focus of numerous initiatives over the past few decades. The next stage is to employ MBSE broadly throughout the system life cycle across disciplines and the supply chain.

The D2OPS activity started with the goal of applying MBSE practices to enable digital continuity between design and operations. This study involves the following main activities:
VISIONSPACE TECHNOLOGIES...
Main achievement: Development of the first blockchain ecosystem for space system engineering, as a global configuration tool that can model the business logic of concurrent design. Addressing the MBSE challenges of controlling data exchange and traceability across system development and operations lifecycle.
Results: Two use cases have been successfully implemented

The EasyMOD project takes place in the OSIP Model-Based System Engineering Campaign as an Early technology Development of ESA, as well as an IRT Saint Exupéry project funded by Airbus Defence and Space, Airbus Commercial Aircraft, HDGroup and the French Government. It aims at improving the human/machine interactions in the use of MBSE models, by providing friendlier visualisation and review capabilities, modelling assistants and new kind of HW and SW interfaces.

The Integrated MBSE Analytics Platform (IMAP) has been developed in the course of the OSIP [OSIP] MBSE campaign’s MBSE2DataLake project. It demonstrates how MBSE data can be downstreamed from early phases and integrated with Telemetry data or system operations data. Applying MachineLearning analytics and customized visualization on these sets of integrated data provides seamless analysis capabilities and data browsing experience for the user. The approach leads to linking the former separated domains of System Design and AIT/Operations.

The MBSE and Space to Ground ICD activity started with the goal of applying MBSE practices to the preparation of the Space to Ground ICD (S2GICD). This study involves the following main steps:
