The objective of the Aeolus/EarthCARE Aerosol Assimilation Studies (A3S) project was to allow assimilation of the Aeolus L2A lidar backscatter data, also paving the way for the assimilation of EarthCARE products. Since the Aeolus and EarthCARE missions were not yet launched at the time of the study, demonstration datasets based on model data (MOCAGE model for the aerosols and the IFS for the clouds) and a one-day dataset based on CALIPSO data (reprocessed at the UV wavelength and with the Aeolus orbit data) was created.

The increase of space debris means that active space debris removal is becoming more relevant. An active debris removal mission would have a positive effect (or risk reduction) for all satellites in the same orbital band. This leads to a dilemma: each space agency has an incentive to delay its actions and wait for others to respond. We model this scenario as a non-cooperative game between self-interested agents in which the agents are space agencies.

We report on a new test of the gravitational redshift and thus of local position invariance, an integral part of the Einstein equivalence principle, which is the foundation of general relativity and all metric theories of gravitation. We use data spanning 1008 days from two satellites of Galileo, Europe’s global satellite navigation system (GNSS), which were launched in 2014, but accidentally delivered into elliptic rather than circular orbits. The resulting modulation of the gravitational redshift of the onboard atomic clocks allows the determination of redshift with high accuracy.
SYRTE
The GREAT project provides an improved test of Einstein's theory of general telativity by analysing the relativistic gravitational redshift as observed in the clock data from GSAT-0201 and GSAT-0202. These satellites have been injected into highly eccentric orbits following a launch mishap, providing us with the unique chance to perform an important test of fundamental physics.

The purpose of this study was to define the a communication subsystem architecture (including both ground and space segments, as well as operational methods) that allows robust RF TT&C links during superior solar conjunction phases. The defined architecture shall ensure robust and reliable links in scintillation regimes (i.e. at low SEP angles) where TT&C links are nowadays degraded, leading to occasional link interruptions. Similarly, the defined architecture shall ensure that at even higher scintillation regimes (i.e.

The project is dedicated to an in-depth study of the re-entry of ESA's Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE), for which a rich measurement dataset is available up to the very end of its decay phase.
Space Dynamics Services
The International Space Station (ISS) is slowly approaching the end of its mission. The European Space Agency (ESA) and its international partners are considering new mission targets for the future of human space exploration in the post-ISS era. Highest ranked on the list of potential targets are a return to the Moon, Near-Earth Objects or asteroids, the moons of Mars (Phobos, Deimos) and, as the ultimate target, the surface of Mars.
COMEX SA
The difficult and costly access to reliable and quality Earth Observation (EO) satellite data has historically often limited the development of operational and sustainable services in multiple application domains (among which Disaster Risk Management) and, as a consequence, it has impaired the benefit that the society could have been receiving back as a return of huge multi annual investments in the space sector.
E-GEOS
The inexorable progress made in the past years in the field of Earth observation (EO) technologies offers a huge potential for innovation in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) applications. Interferometry processing of SAR data is one of the standard techniques for the detection, detailed characterisation and monitoring of surface motion caused by natural disasters. Yet the transfer of this technology progress to the user community needs to move forward in order to ensure that advancements in satellite technologies are transformed into services to be used by the community.
