The high-level objective of HIPER-OSR was to develop a new class of Optical Solar Reflectors (OSR) characterized by being smart and flexible, whereas:

The aim of this study was to explore and consolidate the possible sources of methane biases in retrievals from thermal infrared sensors, to establish necessary actions and perform the related work for mitigating biases. The study distinguishes three types of error sources, which shall be covered: spectroscopic knowledge and input data to radiative transfer models, forward model errors, and instrument biases.
SPASCIA
The objective of the study was to investigate the performance and shielding abilities of lunar regolith-based geopolymer when reinforced with basalt fibres and cured under environmental conditions of the lunar surface. The geopolymer building materials should be suitable for
3D-printing on the Moon. Since there is a very limited supply of water on the moon, the study also focuses on lunar geopolymers with a reduced amount of water in the recipes, without the need for raw materials that cannot be resourced locally on the Moon.

During this activity, we were able to evaluate our electrochemical system with respect to: (i) silicon anode fabricated at an industrial scale equipment, (ii) pouch cells that were manufactured at different suppliers and tested by Airbus Defence and Space, and (iii) safety protocols.
In addition, we showed that standard graphitic-based chemistry cannot operate at low temperatures. Finally, we evaluated the Cost of Ownership of our products.

Increasingly demanding space-based applications require a large primary mirror diameter, on which the optical instrument resolution depends. However, the mass and volume of a monolithic primary mirror would dramatically increase along with its size, which, in addition to cost and technical issues, is also limited by the available volumen in the launch vehicle fairing.

The aim of this study was to explore and consolidate the possible sources of methane (CH4) biases in retrievals from thermal infrared (TIR) sensors, to establish necessary actions and perform the related work for mitigating biases. The study distinguisged three types of error sources: spectroscopic knowledge and input data to radiative transfer models (RTM), forward model errors, and instrument biases.
For achieving this goal, the study addresses three main objectives, corresponding to three identified tasks:
SPASCIA
This study aimed to demonstrate the feasibility, use and functionality of carbon fibre-reinforced flexible epoxy (CFRFE) materials for self-deployable space structures (such as deployable tape-spring hinges) by designing, simulating, manufacturing, testing and correlating a classic (100% carbon fibre-reinforced plastic -rigid resin- CFRP) deployable tape-spring hinge and a CFRFE deployable tape-spring hinge and compare their mechanical and dynamic behaviours.
INGENIERIA PROSIX SL
The MAGS project focused on developing a Maritime Adaptive GNSS Safety Concept to support mariners, particularly within the vicinity of ports.
DLR
We have continued our shock physics code calculation studies of DART-like impact events. This includes comparisons of iSALE and SPH code calculations, using a range of strength and structural properties. The effect of porosity was studied in detail by applying different crushcurves, representing materials with varying crushing strength. The crushcurve was found to have a large influence on the outcome, in particular the ejecta properties and momentum transfer.

Humankind tested its capacity to survive on the Moon’s surface for short periods of time through the Apollo missions almost 50 years ago. Since then, robotic missions to the Moon have spent periods lasting several days and nights on the satellite. However, many technological challenges arise when planning a lunar (robotic and/or manned) mission that is fully operational during the night. Among these challenges, the need for a power supply system for both day and night remains open.
