GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver (such as GPS or Galileo receivers) are vulnerable to RF interference, intentional and un-intentional. Ground GNSS receiver have evolved significantly in the last 10 years to be resilience to such problems. GNSS spaceborne receivers are currently a mission critical element in multiple missions, mainly in LEO orbit, but soon also for GTO and GEO. At the same time the basic architecture adopted does not include (or consider only partially) robustness against RF effects.

FMCW radar technology in the automotive industry radar market covers 24 GHz and 77 GHz bands with modulated bandwidths of up to 4 GHz, allowing simultaneously ultra-precise determination of target range and its relative velocity. Fine angular resolution with 0.1 deg steps at distance of 300 m and beam-steering capability has been recently demonstrated. FMCW systems have also proved their efficiency for detection of fast-moving objects with small cross-section such as drones.

In December 2019, the 3GPP standardization group approved a dedicated work-item for the implementation of a new set of 5G New Radio (NR) specifications allowing the integration with mobile broadband satellite networks. During its science phase EnVision will use ESTRACK antennas located at the three ESA deep space sites in New Norcia (Western Australia), Cebreros (Spain) and Malarg?e (Argentina), and optionally the DSN antennas located at the NASA sites of Canberra (Australia), Robledo (Spain) and Goldstone (United States of America). In order to increase the flexibility in the selection of the ground stations, or alternatively to increase the data volume, offline arraying between distant antennas is proposed during overlapping visibility slots.

Reduction of EMI emission is usually considered a secondary optimization criterion in the design of DC-to-DC power converters for space applications and their filters, where power efficiency, mass and volume are driving design criteria. Several basic methods and techniques exist to reduce EMI, e.g. Filtering and shielding. Typical designs use these basic reduction techniques to a limited extent to meet generic requirement limits. The achievable improvement in EMI reduction needs to be however traded-off against increases in mass, size and power loss.

This activity aims at developing a generic solution, adaptable to the various (but limited in number) types of interface rings, to insulate the exposed surface once the spacecraft has been separated from the launcher. It could consist in a series of MLI flaps with a passive mechanism keeping it away from the Launch vehicle Adapter in quot;open positionquot;. The flap is automatically deployed in quot;closed positionquot; to protect the interface ring from the external environment (cold Space, Sun flux, planet flux).

While development activities of large arrays are underway, these are aimed primarily at GEO telecommunication satellites.
Targets for current array developments aimed at GEO communications vary from 120 - 160 W/kg and up to 40 kw/m3.
Although these concepts can be increased in scale somewhat, the power output necessary for future exploration missions is beyond their reach.
 
Consequently, a new array concept is required, which can offer the necessary power output for such missions.

Large structures in space are an essential and recurring element for space exploitation and exploration. Whether for collecting solar power, or reflecting radio signals or light, dimensions matter. In fact large structures are continuously increasing in size to bring increased economic and scientific benefits.
However, to realise these benefits, robotic capability to assemble the structures in-orbit is needed, as future structures will be too large to launch into orbit as a single self-deploying piece.

The CCSDS (Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems) Bundle Protocol (BP) is one component to realise next-generation Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) / store-and-forward capabilities in space networks. It is part of the protocol stack foreseen for next generation exploration missions (e.g. Gateway). The SIS(Space Internetworking Systems-Delay)-DTN Bundle Security Book, is currently defined within CCSDS. The IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) is also working on dedicated DTN security publications.
