The management of long EO data time series of continuing or historic missions, with more than 20 years of data available already today, requires technical solutions and technologies which differ considerably from the ones exploited by existing systems. The scientific potential for sea ice thickness, ice sheet and ice shelf temperature profiles investigations by low-frequency radiometers, was judged high by the ACEO in the case of cryorad. Spain TDE T106-605EF EOS Engineering 2020 - 2022 A low-frequency and wide-band reflector antenna feed for future earth observation radiometers Control/structure co-design for planetary spacecraft with large flexible appendages Classical control design techniques used for flexible spacecraft are based on single axis design approaches to control the rigid-body motion complemented by low-pass and notch filters to suppress the resonant peaks of the low-frequency flexible modes. These techniques are inherently relying on a priori knowledge of the structural flexible modes and introduce significant conservatism in the control and structural design, dictated by the need to separate the controller bandwidth from the flexible modes frequency. United Kingdom TDE T205-121SA AIRBUS DEFENCE AND SPACE LIMITED 2020 - 2022 Control/structure co-design for planetary spacecraft with large flexible appendages Model Checking for Formal Verification of Space Systems Interest for MBSSE (Model-based system and software engineering) is growing as the complexity of missions becomes difficult to manage with traditional development approaches. ; Existing technology allows to address a large spectrum of the MBSSE scope, from data modelling to automatic code generation. However, much more concrete and quantifiable benefits shall come from automated system verification and testing. ; Poland TDE T702-601SW N7 Space 2020 - 2022 Model Checking for Formal Verification of Space Systems Visualising injector-coupled combustion instability in lox/H2 flames A recently completed technology activity (ESA-IPL-PTM-sfe-st-LE-2015-510) attempted to systematically test the capability of numerical tools in predicting injection-coupled combustion instability in lres. This type of instability is caused by the coupling of the acoustic pressure field in the combustion chamber to acoustic resonance modes in the injectors. The results demonstrated unsatisfactory predictive capability due to challenges in accurately capturing key aspects in the modelling, such as the distribution of fluid properties throughout the injector-chamber system. Germany TDE T419-605MP DLR - German Aerospace Center 2020 - 2022 Visualising injector-coupled combustion instability in lox/H2 flames Tri-band (S/X/K) feed system design for future EO missions The layout of the 14m X/K-Band antenna developed under a previous GSTP activity will be used as starting point to define the feed specifications. A trade-off among different feed configuration will be performed. After selection of the preferred solution the feed will be designed including diplexers/filters and tracking couplers. Mechanical drawings will be prepared and critical components will be manufactured and tested in order to de-risk the project.
