Objectives
The proposed activity aims at identifying technologies, benchmarking and selecting them with the purpose of integrating SAR and Optical data in a software platform in support to a monitoring service for Marine Environment and Marine Safety. Requirements for such service are to perform ship detection, identification and route prediction. The objective of this activity is the identification of emerging technologies, benchmark prototype, test and develop the resulting components with the objective to prototype a service platform with innovative elements to enable a competitive position in the European market.;;
Description
The technologies and the related integration process shall fit the objective to integrate optical data provided by the EROS B optical satellite and the X band SAR (Cosmo SkyMed) to provide a dedicated service, suitable at least in the Mediterranean area. The proposed activity includes identification benchmarking, prototyping and testing of technologies for Process Integration and Data Integration. Process Integration involves the planning and tasking (see the OpenGIS Sensor Planning Service Application Profile for EO Sensors interface) with synchronization of the optical and SAR acquisitions on the same day in the same area of interest. The Data Integration targets the provision of the services in near real time to the end user (i.e. Ship detection, identification and route prediction)possibly also through integration with collateral geospatial data including e.g. AIS and meteo data. Both technologies and resulting platform architecture shall be capable - in the future - to support the inclusion of Sentinel constellation data and processing.
