Today, aboard ISS, the crew is regularly resupplied with necessary metabolic consumables (i.e. food, water and air) coming from Earth. These consumables are generally packaged into dedicated containers, which cannot be re-used and have to be wasted. For food only, the amount of wastes generated by packaging is estimated to be between 300 and 500g/crew member and day, which represents close to 40% of packed food mass.

The mixed signal (SiGe BiCMOS) technologies have been under interest in the specific area of signal generation due to good achievable signal quality. Meanwhile, the technology has been improved to reach higher operating frequencies and lower noise figures, too. For the past 20 years ESA has invested in the development of robot systems, in support of human spaceflight and exploration. A robot relies heavily on specific software, called robot controller software (RCS)? or robot operating system, that can provide? tight coordination of perception, reasoning and motion functions. In these years several tens of millions of Euros of RD and project budgets have been spent in developing RCS for various purposes. While this has allowed to progress space robot technology and projects, the approach used in the past is not sustainable.

The basic goal of this project was to analyse how the usage of non-conventional data (i.e. 'data of opportunity') in conjunction with conventional data could help improve the estimation of parameters for weather and space weather. Conventional data it is considered to be data coming from well-known sources such as permanent GNSS receivers (e.g. receivers from IGS or EUREF networks) while non-conventional data is considered to be GNSS data from research vessels or mass-market GNSS receivers (such as smartphones or other single-frequency GNSS chipsets).

The development of High Altitude Pseudo-Satellites (HAPS) has reached an outstanding level of maturity, with several flight demonstrations that augur soon to have operational capabilities. ESA, aware of the synergies among satellite and HAPS services, set up the HAPPIEST study to analyse the impact of the erruption of aerostatic HAPS into the telecommunications market, currently covered by space and terrestrial networks. Furthermore, some complementary payloads can serve interesting applications such as Earth observation and navigation services.

Several hundred mission scenarios were analysed with a high level of detail both at mission analysis and mass budget level, to properly identify robust and feasible solutions. Three of them make use of both staging and aero-braking to reduce the spacecraft wet mass (mass with fuel), and they all rely either on chemical propulsion or on a mixed system combining a chemical engine with two very powerful electrical thrusters (ARM engines).

The objective is to automate the generation of database editor MMIs resulting from a formally specified data-model. The data model is constructed in line with a domain ontology (prepared in an existing approved TRP activity) which removes ambiguity in terminology and data content. It is refined through the tailoring of E70-41A (packet utilisation standard). This will enable the automated generation of user interfaces to M+C AIT databases according to project specific space-ground ICDs.
