This work begins the material selection process for EVA suits based on initial inputs from the EAC team that is developing an ergonomic prototype space suit.

The development of efficient catalysts which utilise solar energy to convert CO2 to produce value-added chemicals or fuels is extremely appealing since it can simultaneously reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and provide energy storage solutions, with direct applications in both terrestrial and non-terrestrial environments. In recent years, novel solid catalysts such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have demonstrated great potential in energy conversion systems.

Development of deep-space optical communication systems (DOCS) poses a number of technical challenges as compared to conventional radio-frequency links. The higher energy of a single quantum (a photon) at the optical carrier frequency implies the need for dedicated modulation formats and receiver designs. The current technical standard for efficient DOCS is pulse position modulation (PPM) format combined with direct detection (DD) which for photon-starved links is implemented as photon counting.

In space, it is silent and auditory feedback is not available. However, such feedback has a high impact on the quality of manual work. Precise audiovisual feedback can ensure that tasks are performed optimally, e.g, when using a tool or disconnecting a cable. For this reason, we will support the work in the silence of space by Augmented Reality (AR) auditive and visual feedback system. Astronauts can use the system during spacewalks. It then emits realistic synthetic sounds according to the current task or activity.

Advanced green energy generation concepts like space-based solar power (SBSP) have extensively been studied in the past and interest in these concepts has increased recently. To prepare for future decision making on SBSP, ESA has initiated a preparatory initiative called SOLARIS. In November 2022, funding for this initiative was approved at the ESA Council at Ministerial Level. Previous studies have shown that implementing space-based solar power (SBSP) is challenging due to the demand for tremendously large infrastructures that require numerous launches with large masses.

Passive intermodulation is a real threat to all types of payloads. In some cases, it could even lead to total lost of the spaceship. Despite of this, there is very weak understanding of the parameters that generate this unwanted interference as well as their influence in the amplitude of the interfering signal. In addition, there is a total lack of agreed testing techniques, procedures and methodologies as well as justified test margins, as has already been recently stated by the European community (National Delegations, satellite operators and Eurospace).
