The project explores how to adapt Lithography Metal Manufacturing (LMM) to process scrap metal with lunar regolith contamination in a lunar environment, in view of the permanent and sustainable presence of a human outpost on the Moon with a reduced logistic demand, consequently released from onerous and not always timely terrestrial supplies.

Bio-Regenerative Life Support Systems (BRLSS) based on microbial conversion of organic matter followed by photosynthesis are foreseen as important technologies to produce food, oxygen and pure water during long-term human space missions. Previous scientific investigations towards plants in BRLSS have ranged from fundamental plant physiology under fractional gravity conditions to applied edible crop cultivation in Earth analogue constructions, including various techno-biological aspects such as illumination alternatives, nutrient delivery strategies and cultivation strategies.

The supra-THz (>3 THz) bands have been recently proposed for low Earth orbit THz remote sounding missions such as LOCUS (Low-Cost Upper-atmosphere Sounder). In order to achieve coherent detection, heterodyne receivers at supra-THz frequencies are under development by integrating in a single waveguide cavity a Schottky based mixers fed by a Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) as Local Oscillator (LO). Thanks to the QCL, enough LO power is available to drive the mixer.

The development of space suits has been a critical aspect of human space exploration since the early days of the space race. These suits provide a breathable environment for astronauts and protect them from the harsh conditions of space. However, a major challenge associated with space suits is the growth and spread of bacteria in the suits, which can cause infections and pose a threat to the health of the astronauts. To address this challenge, the Bacterma project was initiated with the aim of developing a textile that is resistant to bacterial growth and spread.
