Germany Preparation 23-P-M-OPS-01-b OHB System AG 2023 - 2024 Rapid Apophis Mission for Security and Safety (RAMSES) ROARS: Revealing Orbital and Atmospheric Responses to Solar Activity The ROARS (Revealing Orbital and Atmospheric Responses to Solar activity) swarm will provide a disruptive step-change to knowledge of our upper atmosphere with direct impacts to fundamental science, space weather forecasting and satellite conjunctions warnings. This report describes a prephase A feasibility study into the mission concept. This study formulates the scientific requirements, investigates the payloads and outlines the developmental pathways to meet the requirements. Various altimeter concepts based on the AltiCube+ solution, including off-nadir SARIn and a Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output, have been explored, aiming at sub-kilometre cross-track resolution for water level monitoring. Key technologies on deployable structures, autonomous assembly and highly capable platform have been assessed. GRBs are the most luminous electromagnetic (EM) explosions in the universe, lasting from seconds to minutes. The composition of GRB relativistic jets and the processes of energy dissipation and radiation are poorly understood, more than 50 years after GRBs were discovered. In this mission, a swarm of 16U CubeSats collaboratively supply wireless power via Radio-Frequency waves to end-users in different locations on the ground, for instance to provide backup power for emergency situations, and also for space-to-space commercial use-cases. Switzerland Preparation 23-P-M-TEC-02-a Sirin Orbital Systems AG 2023 - 2024 Swarms of CubeSats for kW-scale Space-Based Solar Power (16U4SBSP) Space based data centres The challenge in space data acquisition, e.g. for earth observation, lies in limited data-downlink capacity. Advances in onboard processing technology prompt exploration of deploying edge computing on satellites to alleviate data transport issues. This can be achieved through individual satellites or specialized networks akin to public cloud data centres. Use-case evaluation and stakeholder validation shaped system requirements for a generic Space Data Centre (SDC) architecture that was devised and simulated in Excel, integrating technology roadmaps and user needs. This will transform the science of Earth environmental monitoring and forecasting applied to such vital concerns as severe weather, natural hazards, snow/ice cover, soil moisture, vegetation canopy, surface winds, ocean circulation and much more. This involves the definition of a public protection and disaster relief use case using the satellite C-band, evaluation of a 16U CubeSat platform, and investigation into the spacecraft and ground segment technology required for coherent beamforming using a swarm of 20 independent spacecrafts. PULSARS mission design and system architecture are proposed, as well as a programme of technology development, enabling the spacecraft to operate for a minimum of three years. The first part of the study was to update the mission architecture with an affordable, sustainable, and scalable solution resulting in a Mission Definition Review (MDR). Sweden Preparation 21-P-M-OPS-03-a OHB Sweden 2022 - 2024 Auroral Oval Monitoring Mission Reorientation Phase A Pre-Phase A System Study of a Commercial-Scale Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP) System for Terrestrial Needs This study investigates Direct Sun Reflecting solution, an innovative concept aiming at boosting energy producing while optimizing existing structures utilization and maximizing their returns. It addresses the pressing need for sustainable energy solutions that can pave the way towards a greener and more resilient future and aligns with Europe's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Our concept is based on the global concept of Space Based Solar Power infrastructure and aims at producing green energy in the fastest time to market and the most competitive cost.
