The current operational methods of land cover change detection are based on bi-temporal analysis for two points in time. These approaches are applied to 3 to 6 years mapping campaigns, while land cover changes occur continually. ;With this 3 to 6 year gap between inventories, all land change processes occurring in between are not captured. Full-fledged Land Cover Continuous Monitoring system of the land evolution is provided for EEA. The development of miniaturized high performance avionics allows the building of microsatellites platforms with the high pointing stability and accuracy. This new generation of microsatellites could embark high-resolution optical systems, but given limited volume and power, the instrument will be limited in SNR. A new generation of hybrid detectors, known as CCD-in-CMOS detectors, can allow circumventing SNR limitations by operating in Time Delay Integration (TDI). This type of operation was, until recently, limited to CCD detectors that are very costly and power hungry. Utilisation of a Heavy and Light Ion Facility at UCL for Component Radiation Studies This activity concerns execution of regular irradiation test campaigns on EEE components for flight on ESA and European space missions. Up to 360 hours per year of beam time is available free of charge on a priority basis for ESA. Additionally, a minimum of 500 hours per year is available for ESA sub-contractors, research institutes and other interested users at preferential hourly rates. The agency provides the facility with a detailed work programme of the test campaigns. Subsequently, the facility performs test campaign scheduling (in agreement with the Agency). This entails waterhammer effects or pre-combustion phenomena where propellants undergo drastic changes due to sudden exposure to near-vacuum conditions. To allow proper modelling, detailed experiments need to be created for typical multi-phase, multi-component flow. Following activities are foreseen: Evaluation of the liquid front behaviour during waterhammer prior, during and after impact for different operational conditions. They offer the possibility of a constellation of cubesats, for earth observation. The major conclusion of the project is that the microbolometer technology can be suitable for space flight. Based on tests performed in other projects, no show stoppers were identified. A breadboard was built to test and quantify performance.
