New scientific missions require Ka-Band high power sources for the data return. Limitation on maximum antenna size and minimum required data rate can be overcome by increasing the transmitted power. At present, there is no off the shelf TWT(A) in the allocated frequency band (31800-32300 MHz) in Europe with 120W saturated output power.

In this project, the University of Luxembourg studied and evaluated a new concept of connecting space missions via space internet providers. The system requirements, necessary adaptations, and possible limitations are provided and discussed. Three types of space internet provider were studied and evaluated: Starlink, OneWeb and O3b mPOWER.

This activity will focus on the development of a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) based version of the de-risked novel light source. As with the bench-top version, the chip consists of three stages and operates as follows. Stage one produces an optical comb centred on 795nm and with a wavelength spacing of 6.835 GHz. In stage two, the demultiplexer stage, this comb is split into two equal paths each of which lead to an injection locked laser. The two injection locked lasers are tuned to select a pair of adjacent wavelengths from the comb.

The continuously increasing amount of long-term and of historic data in EO facilities in the form of online datasets and archives makes it necessary to address technologies for the long-term management of these data sets, including their consolidation, preservation, and continuation across multiple missions. The management of long EO data time series of continuing or historic missions, with more than 20 years of data available already today, requires technical solutions and technologies which differ considerably from the ones exploited by existing systems.

Future low frequency radiometric earth observation (EO) missions, as an example the Earth Explorer 10 (EE10) candidate mission ?cryorad?, have the challenge of realising compact low-frequency and wideband reflector antenna feeds with a high RF performance (e.g. Sidelobes and feed aperture efficiency). The scientific potential for sea ice thickness, ice sheet and ice shelf temperature profiles investigations by low-frequency radiometers, was judged high by the ACEO in the case of cryorad.

In the conventional system approach, image stability requirements are met constraining the platform and instruments to a very quiet thermo-mechanical environment. Major limitations come from the difficulties to develop low noise reaction wheels and the huge mass penalty of a cold gas micropropulsion solution. For the GEO-HR mission, which targets 6-10 m spatial resolution from GEO, an active line of sight control is considered as a candidate solution.
