The modulation of cold atom experiments currently uses bulky laser sources, wavelength converters and electro- or acousto-optic modulators to achieve high power and large extinction ratio at wavelengths close to the visible range. Here, we propose to exploit the lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI) platform to integrate an electro-optic modulator (EOM) with a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) building block on the same photonic chip to maximize the available power and modulation depth.

Electroless plating technique has been extensively used for many decades not only in the space domain, but also in other high end industrial sectors. The existing electroless techniques works very well in case of regular and flat geometries but in case of complex shapes the thickness uniformity of the deposition layer can be an issue. The current research activities related to this topic are mainly focused on the optimization of the electronic bath using ionic liquid.

SIDLOC (Spacecraft Identification and Localization) is a new transmission scheme proposed by Libre Space Foundation to enable LEO satellite identification and tracking. The SIDLOC system relies on a reduced size autonomous transmitter that requires minimal integration and area on the carrier spacecraft. The ground segment of the SIDLOC system utilizes the existing SatNOGS network and the UHF band to perform the signal demodulation and identification. The SIDLOC system uses DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) PSK modulated signals with an effective bitrate of ~50 bits/s.

MICOR system was successfully assembled at Menhir Photonics and final tests performed at CSEM. The tests demonstrated the impressive noise performance of the device. The following main results have been achieved:

The main objective of the activity was to evaluate the usage of Rust programming language in space applications, by providing an RTOS targeting ARM Cortex-M7 SAMV71 microcontroller, a BSP (Board Support Package) and a Demonstration Application. RTOS is implemented in the form of an executor instead of a classic scheduler. The scope of this project doesn’t include preemption. This executor runs tasklets, which are fine-grained units of computation, that execute a processing step in a finite amount of time.

An Operations Ground Segment consists of a complex system of systems, each of which is a source of high-throughput events e.g. telemetry, Out-Of-Limits, operating/data/network system logs. Today the majority of MC systems support a particular subsystem, have limited processing / analysis capabilities (e.g. limit checking, synthetic parameters, filters) and support only stateless operations.
