Passive Damped deployment of full composite structures
Objectives
The objective of this activity is to research and develop the flexible epoxy resins in order to self-deploy full composite structures with instrinsic damping features.
Description
The structures will be composed of thin-walled composite deployable booms with CFRFE (Carbon-Fibre Reinforced with Flexible Epoxy) tap-spring hinges. These tape-spring hinges will be part of the CFRP struts forming the deployable structures. The partial use of flexible epoxy resins in the CFRP hinges can introduce an efficient damping in the deployment that can guarantee a controlled maneuver.
