Objectives
The goal of the activity is to extend the integration of additional COTS items to ;simplify the SCOE assembly on the existing Universal Power Source and Sink (USAS) hardware base. Various new features will be included to make the product ;more competitive. In addition, the activity targets some software improvements to the baseline product.
Description
A Power SCOE tests and simulates the power subsystems of a spacecraft e.g. ;solar arrays, battery, umbilical connection, electronic load (e.g payload load) and other related functions. It comprises power supplies and loads and control functions.
This activity will implement various improvements to a Power SCOE system. The power SCOE includes a Solar Array Simulator (SAS) with leading edge functions. The objective is to include several external functions, that now are embedded in additional units, in a single SCOE unit. This way, this product will be more compact, including not only the SAS but also the secondary protection and the monitoring.
The project aims to arrive at a leading-edge hardware-architecture for SCOE integration in order to achieve low recurrent cost across missions, high hardware quality and reliability and to reduce operational cost for the customer by providing flexibility.
The activities to achieve these extensions will be split in two phases: Baseline: requirement and technology analysis with prototyping and full product implementation into existing generic 2-quadrant power supply.
The selected approach is to plan reuse across different SCOE types e.g. SAS, BS, UMB, PLS etc., standardize interconnections and reduce part count.
The reconfigurable SCOE will include the following units among others: mains power distribution, instruments, protection and monitoring device(s), front panel, rear I/O-panel and cabling.
The target ;is to finally combine all Protection Unit for Satellite Testing (ProUST) devices into one Universal Power Source and Sink (USAS) to simplify also the usage as well as increase the reliability by minimizing the interconnect interfaces.
The software functions comprise extension of the Universal Power Source and Sink (USAS) software core (embedded ;software) with new functions to support additional features of the device realized in hardware/FPGA. By means of configuration, these features can be tailored to the mission specific needs and the specific device configuration. The goal is that the USAS software provides control of all devices in the SCOE, to realize additional functions from external devices like ProUST-SLP and ProUST-FE. From user perspective, these functions are integral to the application.
