Background and justification:

The de-risk activity has been focused on the critical aspects of the dual-service constellation and satellite, to remove the principal risks related to understanding the: - Market analysis in order to identify end-users for the proposed service - System concept and architecture definition, including payloads and their accommodation - Preliminary analysis of the dual service expected performances - Combined dual-service quality - Preliminary business case with the preliminary calculation of the total service cost.

The LEO-GEO4GHG project studied the feasibility of new frontiers of cloud computing in space and artificial intelligence (AI) combining multiple sources of data such as the SATLANTIS GEI-SAT constellation and other external meteorological and atmospheric data with the final aim of providing near real-time methane detection and quantification.

State-of-the-art planetary science missions have demanding requirements regarding orbit knowledge prediction ; for example, for ExoMars TGO, the prediction requirement is around 100m (cross track) and 10s (along track) 2 weeks in advance during the science phase. EnVision M5 candidate mission has similar requirement with a 300 m cross-track and 10s along-track orbit knowledge prediction up to 2 weeks in advance of a given pass. Aerobraking operations also require accurate orbit determination e.g.

In this activity, a proof of concept of an attitude control system based on artificial intelligence, as an alternative to current state-of-the-art systems based on model approaches, was developed and tested in a simulator and in the engineering model of ESA's OPS-SAT.

Achievements and status:
•Review of the State of Art of probes for Plasma Thrusters.
•Definition of probes requirements.
•Design and fabrication of several RFCLP, a couple of FC and an RPA.
•Integration and assembly of the probes at UC3M premises using different UC3M-SENER owned HPTs prototypes.
•Validation (by test) of the probes: RFCLP and FC pairs comparison, and RPA-LIF validation.
•Post-processing tool for results processing and interpretation.
Benefits:

Persistent Responsive Real-Time Earth Observation small satellite constellation mission (PERTEO) was a study dedicated to providing a global democratic service to support disaster management. Earth observation and satellite-based communications play a key role in supporting disaster management targeting responsiveness and the persistence of the service. In the terminology of on-demand Copernicus services, responsiveness is determined by the lead-time and latency. The persistence is determined by the availability and by the revisit time of the service.

This activity developed high-performance data compression software with embedded data analysis features for radio-frequency, multi-band images and video. It offers excellent compression ratios and quality levels with very small computing requirements, which even allow for real-time operation on modest processors. Tests on data from ESA's OPS-SAT satellite reveal image ratios over 1:10 with excellent visual quality, and radio-frequency ratios over 1:3 with nearly identical spectrograms thanks to a smart lossy approach.
