The main objective of the study is to investigate the technological feasibility of implementing the GE⊕-LPS concept, and its role as a prototype for proposed cislunar scenarios supplying electric power to Earth. The methodological approach to the study has been to identify and validate the most simple and effective solutions which ould be practically implemented with known and existing technologies and approaches.

Space Based Solar Power concepts promise the generation of large amounts of renewable power by launching vast Solar Power Satellites (SPS) into space and beaming the power back to rectennas on Earth. Due to diffraction physics, large scale arrays delivering 2GW of power to the ground will be of the order of a kilometre in length and have masses of between 2,000 and 10,000 tonnes.

Future long-duration space missions or planetary outposts, such as on the Moon or Mars, will need solutions for producing food in situ, with a view to:

Test data on material properties and material performance under cryogenic conditions are increasingly required or current and future research, development and application activities (e.g. launcher propulsion systems). The very limited available data base does currently not cover new advanced metallic alloys, composite materials or materials manufactured with new processes e.g. Additive Manufacturing as selected and required for the next generation launcher and spacecraft missions.

The ESA Open Space Innovation Platform Campaign for Cognitive Cloud Computing in Space (3CS) called for project proposals for the use of edge and cloud computing technologies in space. D-Orbit created a consortium including UniBap and Trillium to respond to this opportunity with a proposal to engage the cloud computing community to identify and fly applications on the ION SCV-004 mission.
