ESA Patent 756 presents a compact dual-polarization four-way power divider, enabling the design of passive waveguide arrays with small element spacing (below one wavelength). That invention was originated as a mean to reduce the length of radiating elements in space-segment feed systems for GEO satellite communication applications, including passive multiple beam reflector antennas and active arrays. This requires compact power dividers, preferably operating in dual-polarization.

The project MESG: Moon Energy Storage and Generation, funded by ESA (Contract Nr. 4000119561/17/F/MOS), demonstrated the feasibility of using processed lunar regolith simulant to store heat and, while releasing it, to produce electricity. The possibility to use adequately processed (compacted and eventually doped) lunar regolith for this purpose is a key development on the path to make sustainable long-term lunar habitation a reality.

Magnetic materials, both with soft and hard magnetic behavior, are key components in many devices aboard any spacecraft, such as motors, mechanisms, actuators and sensors. The most common route for the manufacturing of magnets is the sintering process, which produces the highest magnetic performance possible but it is energy intensive and requires molds for each geometry. The alternative is the use of bonded magnets, which are composite materials composed of a polymeric matrix with a high content of magnetic filler.

Composite and adhesive resin systems form a cornerstone for the manufacture of any modern spacecraft however both the manufacturing and procurement processes are often limited by the pot and/or shelf life of the prepreg/resin materials. A longer shelf life could mean a reduction of the amount of scrappage which occurs from any typical spacecraft composite system manufacturing line. Typically, it can be necessary to scrap and re-procure significant quantities of unused prepreg or resin materials simply because the shelf life is shorter than any recurrent manufacturing.
