Onboard computers (OBCs) are a requirement for every spacecraft, from satellites to rovers. Planetary Transportation Systems (PTS) has taken on the task of developing their own OBC unit in-house, tailored to the company’s needs: the in-house development of CubeSats and cooperative avionics technology, as well as own missions at large scale. The development status was raised to TRL 4 within this de-risking activity. The follow-on developments are planned to reach TRL 6.   

This study aims to carry out the conceptual design of a large-parabolic-antenna reflector that is manufactured and assembled on-orbit.

Through its Clean Space initiative, ESA has been devoting an increasing amount of attention to the environmental impact of its activities, including its own operations as well as operations performed by European industry in the frame of ESA programmes. In its Technology Strategy, ESA identified 'Inverting Europe’s contribution to space debris by 2030' as one of the four technology development targets.

In the framework of the GENA-SAT project, German Orbital Systems has developed a new commercial IOD/IOV service approach. It allows to fly technology demonstration and in orbit verification payloads into space for a fraction of today’s costs. To achieve this, a novel platform, together with the corresponding ground infrastructure and sustainable business model are developed based on the company’s heritage project GROOVE.

This project concerns the proof of concept, design and construction of the first micro-incubator to enable biologists to optimise cell and tissue culture conditions and to get as close as possible to real-life physiological and pathological conditions. In the past, there has not been a mobile and autonomous biomedical device allowing both incubation and observation under multiple conditions in real time.

The main objectives of this study were:
- To carry out thorough analysis and modeling of the anomalous gravity fields expected from lunar lava tubes and other types of void spaces, of various sizes and depths. This work was carried out by geoscientists from Queen’s University.
- To define the mission and system-level requirements for this exploration mission, derived from the scientific analysis of those expected gravity signals, and specifying feasible mission and system-level designs, for a mission to scout the Marius Hills pit crater.

Future CubeSat platforms for IOD/IOV missions will require improved capabilities at an equal or reduced price as currently available platforms. Two important drivers for such a platform are computational power and flexibility to adapt to different missions. OroraTech has developed a computational powerful processing unit, in form of a GPU and a new modular and flexible bus architecture, called SmartPanels, for this purpose. Equipped with this technology, OroraTech will enter the IOD/IOV market.

Cost effective opportunities for in-orbit demonstration and verification (IOD/IOV) of non-space qualified products and components should be made more easily accessible for customers. This activity is aiming at the development of a customer oriented and cost effective IOD/IOV full service based on a generic NanoSat platform.

In this report, we discuss the notion of value creation in space and the way it has been measured in recent years. We expose the limitations of the current framework for measuring the contribution of the public sector by academic literature and the European Space Agency (ESA), and examine the implications in terms of ESA's remits.
