Spacecraft charging (either surface or internal) is experienced to one degree or another by all spacecraft. The effects of high charging levels are electrostatic discharge and consequent damage to spacecraft equipment. Lower charging levels can also be a problem for scientific spacecraft because of the modification of the environment around the spacecraft and the interference of scientific measurements. As a result, simulations are used to make charging assessments as part of the spacecraft design process.

The project successfully developed and demonstrated a multi-source data correlator (MSDC), advancing it from TRL 3 to TRL 7. The MSDC processes data from optical, laser and radar sources to perform high accuracy orbit determination. The MSDC was validated in an operational environment, tracking real targets for which high accuracy ephemeris were available, facilitating system validation and proving its effectiveness in accurate orbit determination.

    Compared to current practices, where training of AIT procedures typically uses physical models of the actual hardware, manufactured at discrete moments in the spacecraft development life-cycle, the virtual reality AIT trainer, called ICARUS, shall offer substantial benefits by enabling realistic and immersive training scenarios. This shall provide more flexibility, as there is no need to have any physical models made available for the sole purpose of training.
