When Europe still had no access to clarify the attitude of lost spacecrafts in order to optimize recovery attempts and improve re-entry predictions, the precursor GSTP study on ?Attitude Motion Measurements and Modelling? activity paved the way for an independent European capacity in this field. In fact, for the first time in Europe, it was possible to join measurements of SLR, passive telescope and synthetic aperture radar to fit a dynamic attitude model of the given spacecraft.

The main advantage of the proposed design of middle resolution class analog to digital conversion for space application is minimal demand for additional special function/parameters components (single middle class op-amp, resistors and capacitor are enough). All other required functionality, including analog signal comparator and reference switching, can be implemented in FPGA digital subsystem for middle resolution range applications. This makes the choice of space mature/proven components easier.

Large aerospace projects require the collaboration from many partners, which often use their own development tools and frameworks. The validation of such projects relies heavily on test automation to increase the quality and reduce the costs. Unfortunately, the automated tests developed by each partner typically only address their specific activity and rely on specific tool. Over the past few years, several frameworks to support the automated testing and validation of the different parts of a space project have been produced and deployed.

The layout of the 14m X/K-Band antenna developed under a previous GSTP activity will be used as starting point to define the feed specifications. A trade-off among different feed configuration will be performed. After selection of the preferred solution the feed will be designed including diplexers/filters and tracking couplers. Mechanical drawings will be prepared and critical components will be manufactured and tested in order to de-risk the project.

    Ground Stations and Telescopes are often in remote geographical locations. The local staff do often not possess the required skills and/or knowledge to perform all tasks related to configuration, maintenance and operation of the hardware equipment. As a result, more experienced engineers must travel to the sites to perform the respective tasks.

    The proposed activity is targeting the development of the Engineering Model of a laser altimeter suited for close proximity operations in missions to small-bodies, like AIM.
    A laser altimeter is very beneficial to support close proximity operations due to its capability to support and improve orbit reconstruction performed by other means. Notably, experience from the Hayabusa mission has shown that orbit reconstruction errors without laser altimeter were comparable to the asteroid dimensions.

    The production process of full-CFRP struts, was before only suitable for low volume production rates (~10 struts/month) and including worker safety critical processes.
