In a previous GSTP activity G517-156GI "Leveraging System Performance Metrics and Execution Logs" a prototype correlation engine was developed to reduce misuse of resources (e.g. memory) in software systems limiting time consuming actions for the analyst to detect problems. It uses a technique to non-intrusively analyse system log files and metrics in combination to help locate issues. In a follow-on activity G517-161GI "System Performance Assessment with Data Mining and Process Mining Technique", the use of the engine (based on the Syer et al. algorithm) was extended to a real system.

An integral part of the spacecraft development process is the population of the spacecraft database with information related to the interfaces of individual units. This is a significant task involving the manual entry of enormous amounts of data (150,000 items for a typical spacecraft). The content of the information, which is provided by unit suppliers to the Primes, is not standardised and subject to inconsistencies, immaturity and incompleteness, and this is clearly prejudicial to system development.

Global optimisation methods allow finding a minimum on a global search space without restrictions, unlike finding only local extrema. A general mathematical toolbox for global optimisation is not presently available; all existing solvers and solution algorithms are narrowly specialized towards particular problem types or not available in a high-performance implementation. WORHP is a local optimiser, and hence it provides good results when it is restricted to a small search space by a user-provided initial guess.

The ESA-EC FP7 coordinated project AGAPAC (Advanced GaN Packaging) was completed in 2012 and has been highly successful. The aim of AGAPAC was to demonstrate advanced packaging concepts using MDC with improved thermal dissipation capability that can allow the full performance advantages of GaN technology to be realized. In addition, a consecutive TRP activity, ?High dissipative material for LF/RF hermetic hybrids?, was run and meant to assess different materials (e.g. AlSi, CMC, CuD) developed for realizing high dissipative packages.

Optical atomic clocks are based on using lasers to measure very narrow and stable atomic transitions. Narrow refers to the fact that only a limited range of optical frequencies can be used to excite/measure the transition in the atom. ;For the target space based optical clock, this requires the laser frequency to be controlled to approximately one part in a trillion.

Project D-COLTS de-risked and progressed the development of laser systems required for strontium-based optical frequency standards to be used in the next generation of global positioning systems (GPS) and for precision metrology such as atom interferometry for gravitational field measurements. The laser systems require an increase in TRL in order to support future missions.

The BRAVE series of reprogrammable FPGA’s represent an entirely new area of development for microelectronics. These high performance, very advanced electronics could revolutionise the manufacturing process and performance of multiple missions. Alongside their development there is a current industry initiative to standardise avionics systems. As part of this venture, GSTP Element 2 has initiated an activity to develop a standardised box, which will contain all the different computer modules, such as power boards, and ensure they are all compatible.

Current trend in CUBESAT design is towards increased complexity, volume and power consumption. In this roadmap, a miniaturised SADA would be an enabling technology for various applications and mission designs e.g. LEO constellations with high ?V deployment/End-of-Life deorbiting capabilities, with high power RF payloads for EO and telecom, small interplanetary missions using miniaturised electric propulsion.
