The aim of the activity, developed by Omnidea-RTG in conjunction with ESA, Pleione SA and Fraunhofer IVV, was to produce a thin film polymer-based product enhanced with Graphene nanoparticles to decrease He gas permeability while maintaining thermal bonding properties and without major penalties in UV resistance, for use in high-altitude inflatable structures. The development of miniaturized high performance avionics allows the building of microsatellites platforms with the high pointing stability and accuracy. This new generation of microsatellites could embark high-resolution optical systems, but given limited volume and power, the instrument will be limited in SNR. A new generation of hybrid detectors, known as CCD-in-CMOS detectors, can allow circumventing SNR limitations by operating in Time Delay Integration (TDI). This type of operation was, until recently, limited to CCD detectors that are very costly and power hungry.

This activity was to demonstrate a low-cost LOX pump design, manufacture and test capability with view to enabling a LOX Kerosene 60kN engine program. This activity concerns execution of regular irradiation test campaigns on EEE components for flight on ESA and European space missions. Up to 360 hours per year of beam time is available free of charge on a priority basis for ESA. Additionally, a minimum of 500 hours per year is available for ESA sub-contractors, research institutes and other interested users at preferential hourly rates. The agency provides the facility with a detailed work programme of the test campaigns. Subsequently, the facility performs test campaign scheduling (in agreement with the Agency).

The core of the activity is the development and demonstration of technologies to homogenize the data for joint use: this is highly relevant for Atmospheric Sciences data where a large variety of data in terms of sensing time and geometry and dimensionality (1D to 3D) prevent the combined use of various datasets. Nevertheless, the developed methodologies can be applied to other domains, to create meaningful subsets to cope with the growing of the data stream (large amount of EO data coming from different platforms for the same domain).
