European Low-Flux CIS Development and Optimisation - Phase 2
Objectives
The objective of the activity is to design, manufacture and qualify the new version of Low-flux CIS (CMOS Image Sensor) that was produced in Phase 1. Phase 2 will concentrate on the optimisation of the design toward a flight model and the qualification of the foundry line.
Description
The European low-flux CMOS image sensor development is part of ESA's strategy to make visible detectors for space applications which are entirely designed, built, tested and qualified within Europe. The Phase 1 of this development is currently under the final characterization. ;
;
The aim of this activity is to be the Phase 2 of ESA's development strategy, focusing on achieving a final CIS of high TRL and an established space qualified Foundry line. Under this scope, the proposed activity shall undertake the design and process changes, re-manufacture the detectors followed by test and characterization. Emphasis will be given on modifications of the Phase 1 product towards as close as possible to a representative flight model, e.g. fully stitched, packaged and space qualified.
;
The work shall be organised into the following tasks:
;
  • Detector specification and trade-off.
  • Preliminary detector design and pixel simulation.
  • Detailed detector design.
  • Detector manufacture.
  • Detector characterization including radiation testing

Evaluation, conclusions and recommendations.
